About us
We are Maarten & Lisa, father and daughter. In September 2014 we started Canal View Amsterdam in one of the apartments on the Brouwersgracht.
Lisa grew up at Brouwersgracht 49 and Maarten is still living there.

Lisa is working as a psychologist with children and adolescents and as a university teacher. She is now living in another neighborhood of Amsterdam, but always finds it nice to come back at the Brouwersgracht. That really feels like coming home.

Maarten is working since 2010 as an independent visual artist. He had previous careers in Baroque music as a double bass player, and in child psychology.

We really hope that you will feel at home at the Brouwersgracht as much as we do!

[2] How much did you like the location ?         Average score: 9,9
[3] How much did you like our approach ?      Average score: 9,9
Look here into the 52 separate ratings of all our 52 guests since November 2014.

Our first guest Hisham A. Ibrahim from Dubai wrote on 2 oktober 2014 on our Facebook page:

“I had the honour of being the first guest at the Canal View Amsterdam. I stayed for two lovely weeks in a cosy apartment, in a lovely red door building conveniently located near downtown. I enjoyed my stay and being in a proper Dutch house in stead of a regular brand name hotel enhanced my experience making my trip even more enjoyable. I am looking forward to staying here in the future.”

Noga Prussak, who visited us with her man Yehonatan and their 1;4 year old daughter Alma writes 9 june 2015 on Airbnb: “We stayed at the Canal view apartment with our little girl and Maarten went out of his way to make sure the apartment was baby friendly. He even bought a baby bath! He gave us great tips and recommendations. We are so grateful for the extraordinary hospitality. Choosing to stay here really made our trip. The location is really central, quiet and beautiful and there is a really lovely playground for kids just across the street. I would defiantly stay there again.”

In 2010 the Amsterdam Canal Belt area was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Haarlemmerstraat was in 2012 choosen by the public of Amsterdam as the nicest shopping street of Amsterdam. You will find chic boutiques, unusual shops and a great collection of excellent restaurants, nice bars and cafe’s.
The oldest cinema of Amsterdam The Movies (opened in 1912) is situated at Haarlemmerdijk 161. It has a beautiful art déco theatre, and shows a rich mix of blockbusters and independent releases in a cosy and welcoming environment.

The Jordaan was built during the large expansion of Amsterdam in 1612. Originally it was a district for the working class and immigrants. In the 19th and first half of the 20th century it was an extremely impoverished slum area. Today it is a trendy place for students, artists and young professionals.

Around the corner from Canal View Amsterdam are several friendly street markets with bio-food, cloths & antiques . . .
